Relaxing Pai

February 28, 2007

Current location: Pai, Thailand

So I’ve been on the road now for more than 6 weeks and it’s time to start relaying the awesome experiences I’ve been having to the rest of the world.

I’m currently sitting in a bamboo hut on the banks of the river in Pai, northern Thailand. It’s a very chilled out little town that looks like the kind of place Westerners would come to drop out. I got into town a couple of days ago. Since then it’s been Rancho Relaxo – sitting by the river or lying in my hammock reading a book, going for a dip in a nearby swimming pool, bathing in nearby hot springs and hiring a motorbike to explore the surrounding area.

The people that run the Pai River Lodge, where I’m staying, exemplify the chilled out vibe of the town. If you order any food or take any drink it’s up to you to write down what it is so they can charge you for it when you check out. They claim they’re “too lazy” to do it themselves. Relationships are built on trust and they’ve won me. The first night I was in town I asked them if they served dinner. They didn’t. Just breakfast. So I kicked back with a Singha for a bit instead and minutes later they offered me a plate of spag bol. They’d cooked it for themselves and had extra. I accepted and it was lovely. I like these guys.
